Since the formation of the St. James Village Business Improvement Zone a number of physical enhancements have been put into place over the last several years. All projects are located along Portage Ave within the BIZ area.
- Jointly with Take Pride Winnipeg, the St. James BIZ implemented a Mural Program that to date has competed ten murals with a historical theme located throughout the BIZ. For more information on the murals and locations please visit the Murals of Winnipeg website.
- installation of 19 cement flower planters located along Portage Ave
- installation of wooden cedar benches
- installation of decorative metal trees. Due to existing lighting issues, the BIZ is currently looking into alternative lighting
- installation of 140 planters along with 75 hanging baskets (new for 2006)
- Hiring a summer 'green team' (3-4 students) to assist with graffiti control, litter, maintenance of flowers located within the BIZ
- Created a Storefront Improvement Program that provides funding for BIZ members looking to rennovate their storefronts.
Other Projects:
- Creation of a website to increase awareness of the merchants located within the BIZ and promote activities of the BIZ.
- Produce a quarterly newsletter "The St. James Insider" that is circulated to 5,000 residents and businesses located in surrounding area to advertise and promote activities of the merchants and activities of the St. James Village BIZ.
- Creation of an annual directory that includes a full member listing, featured editorials, etc.
